25. In one of the first German retribution actions, hostages were shot in the Serbian village of Panacevo, April 21, 1941, in retaliation for one German soldier killed and one wounded. One hundred civilians were rounded up at random, 18 were shot, including those at a cemetery wall, pictured here, and 18 civilians were hanged, including one woman.
